Orders establishing a Board to superintend embarkations and examine claims as to property. Minutes of the Board of Commissioners for superintending embarkation, examining cases of 'negroes' claiming British protection between 30 May and 7 August 1783. 'The Book of Negroes' registered by the Commissioners and embarked from New York between 23 April and 31 July 1783. The list gives names, ages, a brief descriptions and remarks relating to some 3,000 men, women and children, along with names of claimants and 'Names of the persons in whose possession they now are, and the name of the ship embarked on and its destination.
