Tor GLAD, alias"JEFF": Norwegian. GLAD, a sergeant in the Norwegian army, was recruited as an agent by German Intelligence in Norway in 1940 and the following year was persuaded to come to Britain to act as both spy and saboteur. His task, together with his compatriot Helge John Neal MOE, alias"MUTT" (known as John MOE), was to start fires in food dumps and factories, to sever power lines and generally to create panic among the civil population. He was also to report by radio on the location of airfields and the effect of German bombing. MUTT and JEFF arrived by rubber boat off the Aberdeenshire coast on 7 April 1941, delivered by German seaplane. Their first action was to contact police and to give themselves up together with their equipment. MI5 was informed and, after interrogation, the ground was prepared to turn them both into 'double cross' agents.
