Catalogue context:
Lists of ships and their voyages in the Company's service. Company ledger giving voyage details of ships both owned and hired by the Royal African Company. Each entry gives the ship's name, captain's name, size and cost of vessel, number of crew and the intended voyage. The detailed entries give voyage itineraries, slaves delivered and slave deaths, and lists of commodities shipped back to England. Some entries also give trading balance sheets. Non-slave trading voyages are included. Information is given on ships losses, pirating and deaths and changes of captains during the voyage. [The ledger is annotated 'No 2', but others in the series are not evident in the catalogue].
